U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) announced today that it will extend Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for nationals of El Salvador through Sep. 9, 2010. The extension will make those who have already been granted TPS eligible to reregister and maintain their status for an additional 18 months. Nationals of El Salvador who have been granted TPS must reregister for the 18-month extension during the reregistration period beginning the day it is published in the Federal Register and remaining in effect 90 days thereafter. Immigrant's Plea Thrown Out Due To Attorney's Mistake |

In 1997, Roberto Brito-Batista pled no contest to possession of cocaine. However, his attorney failed to advise him that such a plea might lead to his deportation. In August 2008, the Court ruled that this failure was ineffective assistance of counsel and threw out Brito-Batista's plea. |

There is now a quick and secure way to check your FOIA Request online!
USCIS just announced their online service check with allows customers to enter their assigned control number - the number that is assigned to their request - and receive instant information regarding its status. The customer will receive either a "pending" or "processed" response.
With a "pending" response, the customer will be able to see their position relative to other requests in the same track. With a "processed" response, customers will know the request has been processed and should see the date it was processed.
